Do you know that honey retains moisture in the skin by drawing air into the skin in a process called humectant. By so doing, it helps the skin retain or lock in moisture for long-lasting hydration. Apply a tablespoon of honey on a dry clean skin and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. When you are done wash off with water.

As Cuticle Softener/Moisturizer

Because honey draws moisture from the air into the skin when applied, it does the same thing for nail cuticles particularly dry cuticles. For this, you will need coconut oil, apple cider vinegar. The vinegar helps in softening the cuticles and also in balancing the pH while the coconut oil conditions it. Get one teaspoon each of vinegar, honey and coconut oil and mix together. Rub into the cuticle and leave for 10 minutes before washing off. You will love how your cuticles look and feel afterwards.

Because of the humectants effect honey has like we discussed above, honey when added to shampoo not only help retain moisture but also help the hair follicles to grow with health and vitality. For boosting your favourite shampoo, you will need to get a little size of your shampoo poured into a plastic. And then you mix with 1 teaspoon of honey and apply to your hair to form lather on your hair. Wash off like you would with your normal shampoo and style as usual. Your hair will look fuller and beautiful.

Pores cleaning

Honey has antibacterial properties that can cleanse the skin of bacteria leaving you with a clean and clear pore. When you have clean pores, you are less susceptible to breakouts and other skin problems caused by bacterial. You will need honey, coconut or jojoba oil for this mixture. Mix 2 tablespoons of coconut or jojoba oil to 1 tablespoon of raw honey until you achieve a smooth texture. Then apply generously on your skin and massage in a circular motion even on the face but not close to the eye area. This will be applied on a dry and not damp body. Your pores will thank you later.

For Body and Soul

Hair Smoothening the Healthy Way

Recently, I’ve had very bad luck in the hair department. My curly, luscious mane began to bore me one day, and I decided to straighten it out. Looked great, but ruined my hair. Wonder what those chemicals did, my hair became dry, frizzy and would fall everywhere. I was beside myself. My friends at Studio83 introduced me to a wonderful solution – the Cysteine Keratin Infusion Treatment.

Cysteine has come out with a product to revitalize hair by restoring the pH balance of styled hair. When one colours or straightens hair, their hair becomes more acidic than normal. This results in some or all of the ensuing problems – breakage, hair fall and/or frizz. Straightening and colouring products use heat, in some cases formaldehyde or compounds that convert to formaldehyde under heat, ammonia and many other chemicals that change the properties of hair. Simply going to spa will not restore what your hair lost while you were getting that poker straight look or that new shade.

Cysteine came out with a safer and more organic product. They infused hair protein – keratin along with the naturally occurring amino acid, cysteine, together into hair. Keratin is the building block for hair, so it restores smoothness, shine and health into hair. Cysteine binds with hair more easily than formaldehyde so one has to use less heat while applying this treatment on their hair. Cysteine also hydrates hair thus, returning lost moisture.

Not only does this treatment revitalize damaged hair, but also works wonders on healthy hair. It makes hair smooth, shiny, tangle-free and low maintenance. You can literally just brush and go. It helps make curly hair behave! Best of all – you cannot tell the difference between old and new hair!

With traditional straightening treatments, your new hair grows more unruly than usual because of the chemical havoc wreaked on them, but with this enriching and revitalizing treatment, new hair comes back soft, smooth and healthier.

All you ladies who want a wavier, less curly look without the frizz and dryness should definitely try this treatment. It will not make your hair poker straight, but will definitely relax unwanted curls and give you a bouncy, shiny mane. For those with already straight hair, try this treatment for the shine and hydration. Believe you me, you will not regret it.

Early Signs of Aging and How to Tackle It

Aging, this is one of the things many people secretly dread. For some people, it’s worse than a nightmare. We want to live forever young with all our features not changing in ways that only aging can. Well, unfortunately, we can’t stay forever young and can only last as long as our life span can carry. We enjoy those youthful years of our teens into the 20s and some parts of 30s, but then when we clock 40, the realities of life come knocking. Aging is a way your body tells you that it’s been overworking itself and just like a car engine, there is always a diminishing return. Aging may not be desired by so many; it is, however, a necessary evil. This is why we should strive to age gracefully and more importantly, avoid premature aging.

You don’t have to dread aging for any reason. Read through the following part of this article to get help on how to tackle those problem areas in your body that are affected by aging.

3 Dark circles

One of the first places to notice the signs of aging is around the eyes in the form of dark circles. Some people have a natural dark circle that is evident even at a young age of 13. Others get theirs as they begin to advance into their late 20s and beyond. The reason for this is because the skin around the eyes gets thinner as we age and makes the appearance of dark circles very obvious. To help solve this problem, you will need the help of Vitamin A that can be found in hydrating facial creams that contain retinoid acid or retinol. Another help is from concealers. Use a color that is two shades lighter than your color and applies on your dark circles to make it less obvious.

Another place you will notice aging quick is on the eyebrows. They also thin as you age. Things like hormonal imbalances, plucking of the eyebrow over time, genetic inheritance also contribute to the thinning of the eyebrow. If you are suffering from this have no worries. There are prescription drugs you can take for it. Your doctor can prescribe drugs accordingly. You can also make use of eye pencils to help make the eyebrows appear fuller or longer.

Loose skin

This is one major sign of aging. Your skin starts losing its firmness as you age and no matter how skinny you may be, you will still notice it. It’s more prominent in people that are on the big side. Issues like weight increase, undue exposure to the sun, smoking or genetics are the primary causes of loose skins. These things cause the collagen and the elastin in the skin to break down and loosen up. If you are yet to have a loose skin, we suggest you start applying firming creams that work with continuous use. Some extreme procedures can come from cosmetics in the form of fillers and Botox. Their result, however, is only temporary. Although there is no way to completely avoid having loose skin, lifting of light weights and exercise can help to firm up the loose skin to an extent.

This is another area that aging can be noticed because wrinkles easily settle there. You may notice the appearance of fine lines on your forehead as you advance in life. Aging is the major cause of wrinkles on the forehead, but some habits like squeezing of the face unnecessarily and carrying heavy things on the head are some of the things that also contribute to the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead. To help this, you can resort to massaging the face in an upward manner for 2-3 minutes daily. You can also decide to use makeup to hide it. Choose liquid-based foundation against dry foundations. Make sure you do not apply excess or it will comfortably settle in between the lines you were trying to conceal.

The lips start losing its fullness and smoothness as the signs of aging sets in. The chopping and the fine lines become more obvious when you apply lipsticks. To help resolve this, you will need to exfoliate and moisturize the lips. For the exfoliation use sugar and cotton material dabbed in water and scrub gently for a minute. After that, you can apply a lip balm or olive oil to protect the skin. Using lip products rich in SPF that protects the lips from the sun also helps.

Now you know where the signs of aging appear first and how to prevent or tackle it. Following the things we mentioned above and more importantly, drinking a lot of water, exercising and choosing healthy meals to go a long way in reducing the signs of aging.

Natural Home Remedies for Some Hair and Skin Problems

Oftentimes we are faced with some problems arising from our skins and our hair and these are the two things that say a lot about who we are. We spend a lot of money in making sure that our skin and hairs are in their best condition. It, therefore, has become normal to head out to the drugstore to get products that can offer us complete or some sort of relief. The good news is that you may not need to do that again as some of the things you already have in your home may be all you need to fix that problem.

Chipping or peeling lips

This is a common condition we experience when faced with harsh weather conditions, poor nutrition or when crossing a phase in life. To restore that lustrous lip you used to have, wet a soft face towel or any other soft material you can lay your hands on and dip into a bottle of brown sugar. Gently rub it on your lips for about a minute and watch as the chapped dead skin gives way for new layers of skin on the lip. After that wash it off and apply coconut oil for deep moisturising. You can also decide to mix half teaspoon of honey with olive oil (1 teaspoon) and apply on the lips overnight. You will love the result in the morning.

Acne problems

Acne is not a new problem for many people. For a home treatment, you will require getting four drops of tree oil and three tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Mix the two together and rub on the problem areas. If you have time you can do it up to two times in a day. The polysaccharides and gibberellins that are present in aloe vera help in tackling the bacteria that causes acne. It also fights against inflammations, heal spots or scars and then encourage new skin growth. The tree oil also has its own antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that fight against chapping.

Stubborn or frizzy hair

An unkempt hair is in the least attractive. If your hair proves stubborn to manage, get half of an avocado pear and mix with two teaspoons of olive oil. Massage the two mixtures into your hair when it is a little damp. You can leave it on for 10-20 minutes and rinse off afterwards. Apply a conditioner to it and the result you will get when dried will amaze you.

Dry Skin

For dry skins, you will need to mix 5 tablespoons of white sugar, juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply on the body with your palms or with your sponge if you prefer and leave it on for 3 minutes before washing off in the shower. The dead skins are tackled with the natural alpha-hydroxy that is found in lemons which loosen the “glue” that holds down the dead skin to the body. The sugar acts as an exfoliator to get rid of the dead skin and encourages production of news skin. The skin gets its nourishment and moisturising from the Vitamin E that comes with the olive oil.

Dry Cuticles

If you have the problem of dry cuticles especially if you want to apply nail polish or to fix false nails, you’ll need to get rid of the cuticle on your nail to achieve the best result. For this, you will only need coconut oil and your body cream. Take some drop of the coconut oil and a tiny portion of your cream and mix together. Rub it into each cuticle. You can also put on plastic gloves for about 10 minutes for better results.

Ingrown Hairs

This one might sound a little weird but to treat ingrown hairs you will need to dissolve four tablets of Aspirin in a half glass of warm water, stir until dissolved and then add 1 teaspoon honey to it. Rub in the mixture into the affected areas and wait for 10 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water. The salicylic acid contained in Aspirin serves as a very effective exfoliator and also has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the swelling that accompanies ingrown hairs. However, if you have sensitive skin, do well to steer clear of this treatment.

Bonus – (Brown or Stained teeth)

This one is a bonus. We know many people long for a white and sparkling teeth but get discouraged when they are told the huge amount of money they have to pay at the hospital to get the result. Not to worry, you can achieve that at the comfort of your home for few pennies. For this, you will need 1 teaspoon of water and 3 teaspoons of baking soda. Mix it together to form a paste. Then with your toothbrush, dab it into the paste and rub against your teeth for not more than 2 minutes and rinse off with water. You will notice a difference in the colour of your teeth and a fading of the stains. You can do this once in a week or two times at most. It’s not to be done daily because of the acidity of the mixture which may affect your teeth negatively when used daily.
